On September 22, all sixty-three OI/BFI students gathered to share their experience at the Lycée Albert Ier and welcome the Year 10 students. The day started at the canteen, where teams –named after US Presidents-- were created with a mix of students from Years 10, 11 and 12. All the students enjoyed a breakfast offered by the school, while the juniors and seniors shared their experiences, and more specifically their “Connaissance du Monde” projects.

Along with Mrs Sakatni, Mr Barral, Mrs Touati, Mr Candela and Mrs Torreilles, we started hiking to the Mala, where we had intended to picnic. Unfortunately, the path was closed half-way, so we had to stop at the “Jardin des Douaniers” instead. We spent most of our time, eating, discussing about our future, getting interviewed for the school site, and taking class pictures.

This day was productive and instructive as it showed us the different paths we can take and how the BFI will impact our future. It convinced most of us to stay in the section to benefit from the advantages the BFI section has to offer.

Orientation day was an absolute delight! We commenced the festivities with an invigorating hike to a nearby garden, basking in the glorious sunshine. Upon our arrival, a picnic ensued, with a diverse array of delectable treats. Conversations flowed freely, with in-depth discussions regarding our prospective academic paths, particularly our choices of universities. The more experienced students proved to be invaluable resources, offering us pragmatic counsel and invaluable insights. Our day was further enriched by engaging in a myriad of enjoyable activities and bonding moments. This event wasn't merely about embarking on our college journeys; it indeed broadened our horizons and imbued us with anticipation for the adventures that lie ahead.

I think Orientation Day was a really good way to not only integrate the 2ndes into the OI BFI community, but also to meet new people and learn about their journeys. We all got to chat and have a good time together, away from the stress of school and without the stereotypically “school activities”. The 2ndes were made aware of the BFI journey ahead, and projects were premiered at this occasion, such as theatre projects, special days to celebrate together (Martin Luther King Day being one), and even a trip to the United States of America at the beginning of the 2024/2025 school year. Overall, Orientation Day was a very fun experience for all to be repeated again next year; a really good first step into the school year and integration process for new members of the community.
